Whelan keen to keep Cattermole

The Latics chairman has told Sunderland they are wasting their time in their attempts to sign the England Under-21 international.

Black Cats manager Steve Bruce originally signed Cattermole 12 months ago for the Lancashire club when he paid Middlesbrough £3.5m.


Since taking over at the Stadium of Light the former Wigan manager has made no secret of his desire to be re-united with Cattermole as he seeks to strengthen his midfield.
